Is this actually caffeine-free?
Yes. There is no tea in this blend. Cocoa nibs contain a very small amount of theobromine, which is a mild stimulant related to caffeine but much gentler in effect. The label lists this as caffeine-free.
Is this a good coffee replacement?
It is a solid option for anyone cutting back on caffeine. The chicory root gives it a roasted, coffee-like depth, and the cocoa nibs add richness. It won't taste exactly like coffee, but it scratches a similar itch in the morning.
Can I steep this in milk instead of water?
Yes, and it is really good that way. Almond, oat, coconut, and regular dairy all work. Steeping in milk makes it creamier and brings out more of the chocolate flavor.
How long should I steep it?
5 to 7 minutes at a full boil (210°F) with a heaping teaspoon per 8 oz.
Can I drink this iced?
Yes. Steep it hot and strong, then pour over ice. It works well cold and is a nice alternative to iced coffee in warmer months.
Does it need sweetener?
Most people enjoy it without any added sugar. The coconut and spices give it a natural warmth that reads as sweet. That said, a little honey or coconut sugar pairs nicely if you prefer a sweeter cup.
